Bullion Mart Review Review Summary:

Bullion Mart is based in North York, Ontario, and was set up over twenty years ago by a precious metals enthusiast. The bullion dealer also has a walk-in store in Toronto. Although Bullion Mart has a wide selection of items, including the main bullion coins and bars as well as a vast variety of numismatics, you might want to look elsewhere if you're interested in investing through an RRSP or TFSA. At the time of writing, Bullion Mart doesn't handle TFSA/RRSP account integration and setup like some of their competitors do.

Pros

  • Wide choice of bullion and numismatics – over 90 different silver items and 46 gold items with availability – a plethora of numismatics
  • Discounts start at 25 plus silver items and 10 plus gold items
  • Secure segregated storage offered
  • Buy back prices up to 98% of the spot price

Cons

  • TFSAs and RRSPs are not available through Bullion Mart
  • Some instances of poor reviews
  • No information available on management

Bullion Mart has one of the widest choices in silver and gold coins and bars. Note that some gold and silver coins are not under their numismatics page even though they are not bullion.

The Canadian Revenue Agency has specific requirements for precious metals, and they must be met if you want to include them in an RRSP or TFSA. Having said that if you are a collector of precious metal coins then Bullion Mart is likely to have something of interest.

Bullion Mart Customer Reviews & Ratings

Bullion Mart does not have the extensive years of business experience that other competitors can claim. And they lack retirement account services which are offered by many of the top dealers. So, we set about discovering what they might be doing right. As it has managed to keep them in business for over twenty years.

Overall, Bullion Mart has a high level of customer satisfaction, and many customer reviews state they are or will be repeat customers. However, the bullion dealer has had instances of negative reviews, although it was not possible to assess what the outcome was exactly.

Bullion Mart History

We could not find any publicly available information on the owners, managers, or general history info about this bullion dealer. Although the company’s website states they have been in business for over 20 years, the Better Business Bureau states the years in business for Bullion Mart as 14.

Bullion Mart Products & Services

This bullion dealer along with the wide range of numismatics also offers a decent selection of the following precious metal bullion:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Platinum
  • Palladium

The selection for gold and silver is very wide as mentioned before. With 46 different gold items among bars and coins, and over 90 silver items. You cannot include all of these items in a retirement account. However, Bullion Mart does not offer any service for these accounts. So, if you do shop with them, you probably do not find that necessary.

In sharp contrast, the palladium offering was only one item, while their platinum stock has more to offer with 12 different items.

Gold

Bullion Mart’s gold offering comprises 23 bars and 25 coins. Coins come in the following weights 1/20th Oz, 1/10th Oz, ¼ Oz, ½ Oz, and 1 Oz. They have some interesting and beautiful pieces such as the 2016 1 Oz US Gold Buffalo or the set of four 1987 Gold Britannia Proof coins.

If you want to add these to your retirement account holdings, check first with the CRA as these coins have a high collectible value and are priced well over the 10% margin on the spot price.

The 2022 10Oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is a high-detail bullion coin and Bullion Mart has these coins from various years. Prices vary greatly compared to spot prices for numismatic factors like availability and collectability.

The weights for gold bars start at 2.5 grams and go all the way to 1 kilogram. In between, you’ll find various sizes which make investing in gold very easy, even for the smaller pockets.

The 1 Oz Gold lady Fortuna bar is a valid option for gold bullion. The bar has an attractive design of the blindfolded deity Lady Fortuna and comes in an elegant packaging.

Silver

Bullion Mart offers various weights which include 1/10th Oz, ¼ Oz, 1 Oz, and 2 Oz coins. Some of the coins offered have a very high numismatic value, as the price of the coins is way higher than the typical mark-up over the spot price.

For silver bullion, they have various options, one of our favorites is the Austrian Mint 2022 1Oz Silver Philharmonic coin.

Platinum & Palladium

The palladium offering consists of just one item. The palladium is packaged within a set of 16 bars with four ingots of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. The platinum offering is sufficient considering the industry average.

Their smallest platinum item is a 2 grams Credit Suisse Liberty bar. While their largest platinum item is the 10 Oz PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna.

Discounts

Bullion Mart offers bulk discounts on most of its items. Bulk discounts kick in from a low threshold of 25 silver coins. 5 Oz and 10 Oz silver bars also get a bulk discount from 25 plus pieces. But with bigger ingots such as 100 Oz, discounts kick in at 6 pieces.

Gold coins get a bulk discount from 10 items up, even with the smaller 1/10th Oz coins. All gold ingots get a discount starting at 10 items, including the 1-gram ingots. Further discounts are applied at 25 plus and 51 plus.

Shipping

Bullion Mart ships all products with insurance and discreet packaging to the address supplied by the customer. Note that if you have someone else receive the package and sign for you the insurance is void.
